In the early days, I got a lot of inspo from people like Tim Ferris and Pat Flynn. But I really learned how to make a freelance career in writing work from Bamidele Onibalusi at Writers in Charge – it’s a good place to start, if you’re thinking of going freelance.
I ended up doing a lot of writing and editorial work in the lifestyle, entertainment and women’s niches. Through this work, I developed the creative flare and sense of fun that I still bring into my writing today.
But, eventually, I decided that I didn’t want to write about my personal life or what kind of jeans celebrities are wearing etc. anymore… It’s awks and not as fulfilling or challenging as working with up-and-coming businesses.
Over the years, I’ve also taken a bunch of copywriting and link building gigs from agencies, working with B2B and B2C clients. I’ve written about anything and everything, from cybersecurity to real estate to coworking spaces to air conditioning systems *fun*.
